I’ve already raved to you guys about the fabulous Ian in my review of YHA Cambridge.
Well not only did Ian advise me the best time to go punting based on the weather and sort out the locker situation for me when I was being an idiot; he shared with me the secret of The Urban Shed.
I arrived in Cambridge around midday and I was starving! But most of all I needed coffee. To be specific, I needed a strong double espresso.
Enter: The Urban Shed
@the_hostelgirl @YHACambridge look forward to seeing you.

After a friendly twitter exchange and a few wrong turns (have I told you before about my skill at getting lost?) I finally stumbled on the modest exterior of what would turn out to be a very quirky café…
It turns out that The Urban Shed is a café cum retro goods store, selling everything from retro record players and coffee machines to antique signs!
And until an item is sold, it fits right in with the antique decor of the store. Despite so much on offer there is more than enough seating for individuals and big groups…
Doorstop Sandwiches & Double Espressos
After faffing around for a bit trying to figure out the best place to plonk my caffeine-deprived bottom, I finally settled in and ordered myself one of the tastiest sandwiches I’ve eaten in a long while. I had the Chorizo & Manchengo bloomer and I found it a bit heavy for lunch, but then that was my fault for ordering the bloomer!
I also treated myself to an espresso milkshake which was such a sweet treat and came in a really funky retro glass bottle!
As you can see below there is a huge choice of breads and fillings for the sandwiches… or click here to see the full menu including soups, salads, vegetarian/fish options & desserts.
Most of all, the after lunch double espresso had everything I needed to keep me running around town in the cold for the rest of the day. With a long list of Fairtrade beans to choose from, coffee fans will be spoilt for choice. Click here to see their coffee menu!
Oh, and if you want to make your experience at The Urban Shed a little unique, the coffee shop provides a large stock of old-school records which customers are invited to load in to their guest record player! Sold!
With only a few hours left the next day before I had to catch a train to London I was gutted I didn’t get to make another quick trip to this awesome coffee shop. If I was a local in Cambridge I would definitely become a regular here!
Lots of love,
