As most of you know I’ve been back home for a few months now – which is incredibly frustrating when all i want to do is take off again on the first flight across the world!
As it is, I need a few months more to save up and start earning a living I can keep up on the road, so I’ve come up with a few ways to enjoy a life without travel…when you can’t get rid of that travel bug!
1. Feed The Travel Bug
It might seem slightly counter-productive, but there’s nothing I enjoy more (or that frustrates me more!) than watching endless travel programs and reading all my favourite travel blogs for inspiration on where to go next! It’s highly unlikely that you’ll be able to get rid of the travel bug once you’ve got it, so you may as well work with it! If everything in the planning stages goes well, then I’ll be able to keep travelling for a while which means a long bucket list of all the places I want to see keeps me happy in the mean time! Most recent additions? Fingal’s Cave and Patagonia, Chile!
2. Exercise
As I found, it can be all too easy to feel as if you’ve fallen in to a bit of a rut once you stop travelling. After spending a month or two moping about, added to the fact that I was working online at my computer most days, I started to feel less and less motivated to get out and explore – which is where exercise comes in! Just a half hour or hours of cardio a day can really help boost your mood…and your motivation! Don’t let the fact that you’re not travelling get you down – find ways to stay active and feel alive.
3. Work
I may not be living my dream life right now, but that doesn’t mean I should put off reality until my dream life decides to present itself. You have to work hard to achieve goals, and a big part of this is making money to get those flights. Don’t get me wrong, I am a budget traveller and I really believe that you don’t need to be rich to travel, but you’re still going to need a few bob in the bank so work your arse off. Every day I finish work I feel like I’m one step closer to that flight!
4. Make Time To Enjoy Life
It’s really important to set aside time away from work and exercise in which you can enjoy time with friends, or even visit a few sights that may be a bit closer to home. Whilst travel is a huge passion of mine, I have even more passion for the ocean, so I set aside time every day that I can for a swim. But even small things like having a calm half-pint after work, or spending time with my nana, or maybe sleeping in just that extra half-hour in the mornings, can add a little bit of something good to your day!
What do you do to cope with a life without travel?
Lots of love,
