All I could see of the crowd were burnt silhouettes as the red floodlights flashed behind it. Similarly, the DJ’s face was a mystery to me, shrouded behind a cardinal veil of light. I was at Zig Zag Club and it was my first proper experience of nightlife in Paris….
I was loving it.
Zig Zag Club Paris
Zig Zag Club reminded me of my University days. If you took myself and my friends out of the equation, the average age would probably settle at around 19. But it really didn’t matter.
The strong electro beats that pounded the dance floor late in to Saturday night made me completely forget how I old I was, how long it had been since I’d bounced on my toes with one arm in the air and what time I had to be up in the morning for a scheduled walk along the Champs Élysées.
My first experience of Parisian Clubs also included my first experience of French electro. The night hosted not one, but four DJs!
We managed to pull ourselves out from behind the DJ booth at the Zig Zag Club by the sensible time of 3.30am meaning that we missed out on the final act: Fabich. But I warmed up to the sounds of Surprize, before letting Hugel and Kungs completely whisk my mind away to a land beyond work, bills, and all other manner of responsibilities.
Encircling the main dance floor is the second floor VIP section. This is where we began our night but the magic of Zig Zag is that no one up for a party can escape the alluring mess of pumping fists, sweaty hair and vibrating tones emanating from the DJ booth.
No matter how VIP you may feel, the true Zig Zag experience lies in the masses that congregate below the DJ like the faithful before a priest.
That night we strolled back from my first experience of the nightlife in Paris to our base at Generator Hostel with smiles on our faces. At one point we came across the flooded banks of the Seine lit up by the distant but strong beams of the Eiffel Tower.
I wish I had a picture worth showing you but the combination of alcohol and French beats from the Funktion One sound system means the only images I took on the way home that night are NSFW.
So instead, here is the luxurious bed at Generator that I crashed out into and from where I wished my Snapchat followers a very drunken good night…
And if you didn’t follow along on Snapchat I created this short recap of our time in the clubs and festivals of Paris…
Tell me: what’s your favourite European city to party in?!
I was a guest at the Zig Zag Club for the ‘Young & Festive’ weekend run by the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau and hosted by Generator Paris. However, and as always, all opinions are honest and my own.
