There’s something about coffee that just seems to inspire creativity. The stimulation from caffeine and rush of energy from my spoonful of sugar can be enough to keep me writing for hours. Which is why I love the blend of coffee and art at London’s first ever street art cafe: Quaker Street Cafe!

Quaker Street Cafe burst out of the Shoreditch creative scene in May 2017.

With interior artwork created by Mr Cenz, Roaming Elephant, and other talented street artists, the walls inside the cafe scream creativity and passion. Passion most of all for art and the local community.

This passion is something that absolutely radiates from the local guys that run the cafe, and their incredible staff.

Any trip I make to Quaker Street Cafe is never a short one.

Don’t get me wrong, the service is fast! But the conversations that take place between the regulars, new customers, and staff members are so stimulating I never want to leave!

Not only has the cafe created a vibrant new space within the local community. It has also developed its own community that absolutely loves hanging out inside its colourful walls.

To stay true to its roots, Quaker Street Cafe offers tasty treats and organic snacks sourced from the local area to accompany their smooth coffee.

But the ultimate treat isn’t in the food. Or even in the coffee. At Quaker Street Cafe it’s all about the art community.

Quaker Street Cafe: The Gallery

By far one of the most exciting things about Quaker Street Cafe is their dedication to creating a space to help promote local emerging artists.

With a rolling exhibition, and regular events to showcase their exhibition openings, the team have created an exciting space for tourists and locals alike to keep up with the best rising artists.

At the start of this month, I was lucky enough to attend the opening for a new exhibition called Be Bold by Steve Kalinda.

At 7pm, a chatty queue of family and friends of Steve and the cafe formed outside.

And as soon as the doors opened, we rushed in to see the cafe space transformed into a colourful gallery. The street art on the walls acted as the perfect backdrop for Steve Kalinda’s bright and bold artwork, and there was excitement in the air.

I can chat to almost anyone. But I was a little bit shy to actually introduce myself to Steve, the man of the night.

Quaker Street Cafe: The Verdict

Whether it comes to hostels, bars, cafes or restaurants, the most important part of visiting them for me comes down to the atmosphere created by the team that run them.

And in just a short few months the team at Quaker Street Cafe have completely won me over.

Their passion for art is infectious. Their skill at making coffee (that I don’t even have to sweeten!) is always improving. Their bubble tea is the best in East London. And the community that hangs out their on a daily basis is not only inspiring, but also welcoming and fun!
