This post is waaaaay overdue. The last time I was in the bar of The Yellow Rome was in February of this year. But the day I got my hair cut in their trendy new salon was way back on the 26th January.

The photos in this post also aren’t my best. I almost missed the appointment due to a meeting that ran over in another part of the city. Which meant that I didn’t have my camera on me and had to rely on my iPhone 5. Which while indestructible, has a shoddy camera!

But I really wanted to write this post for two reasons:

• It’s so bloody cool to see a trendy hair salon in a hostel!
• The Yellow Rome is constantly evolving and providing new experiences for their guests. So I want you to know about the hair salon in case it doesn’t last forever!

The Yellow Rome:
A Hostel With a Hair Salon!

As I mentioned I almost missed my appointment. But one quick call to The Yellow management and they managed to postpone it until later in the day. Thank goodness… because I was long overdue a hair cut!

Once I arrived, a bit flustered but looking forward to a relaxing afternoon, the salon staff were just as friendly and accommodating as the staff at the hostel.

The salon staff are ambassadors of ContestaRockHair. This international, cutting-edge brand of hair stylists is all about creativity and innovation – which makes them the perfect match for The Yellow Rome! It also means that every one working there is just way cooler than me.

I’ve had the same hair colour and style pretty much since the day I came out of the womb. Not including a very disturbing period of my childhood when my mother thought I’d look good with a fringe.

Spoiler alert: I do not look good with a fringe.

What this means is that I was probably the most boring customer to ever step foot in CRH HUB (the name of the salon) at The Yellow Rome. But the staff there didn’t seem to care at all that I just wanted a trim.

Guillermina, my stylist, also gets extra bonus points for not freaking out at the sight of my split ends. Which at the time were bloody horrendous.

Instead, she chatted away with me all about her life in Rome and her career as a stylist. I just felt like I clicked with her straight away! As someone who knows nothing abut hair care, I’m always more than happy to just let stylists do their job with very little guidance from me.

But as someone who knows a few hairdressers I know how annoying it can be when someone says, “I don’t really want anything different, just smoother. You can get rid of all the split ends, but I’d love to keep as much of the length as possible.”

Yeah, I’m a pain in the arse sometimes! And still Guillermina kept smiling away and had me grinning from cheek to cheek when the final result was this…

CRH HUB at The Yellow Rome: The Studio

You’ve probably spotted just how cool the CRH HUB salon is by now from the photos in this post.

I loved the artwork on the walls, and I thought it fit perfectly with the character of The Yellow Rome! Want to see for yourself? Just watch this video I made all about the atmosphere of the hostel!

Since I wrote my review of the hostel, the design of the reception building has changed a lot.

Part of the changes they made included gutting the building (which was so cool to see last year!) and incorporating the new reception, concierge lounge and hair salon within the rustic brick walls.

Ultimately, getting my hair cut in a proper hair salon in one of my favourite hostels was such an enjoyable experience!
