Amsterdam Noord is one of my favourite districts of Amsterdam. And one of the city’s best kept secrets! That was until ClinkNOORD hostel opened their doors there back in 2015.
The first hostel to open in the Noord district of Amsterdam, ClinkNOORD has always been dedicated to sharing the best of the district with their guests. Which is why they invited a group of bloggers (including myself) to spend 24 hours in Amsterdam Noord with them last weekend!
So, here’s what we got up to. And how you can spend 24 hours in Amsterdam Noord with Clink Hostels!

24 Hours in Amsterdam Noord
For the early risers out there, you’ll be pleased to know that breakfast at ClinkNOORD begins at 7.00am. But, if you can’t drag yourself out of bed that early, they still offer a full spread right up until 10.30am.
To make the most of a full 24 hours in Amsterdam Noord then it’s best to grab breakfast at 9.00am. The breakfast at ClinkNOORD costs €6.90 and includes a buffet of cold meats and cheeses, hot eggs and hot dogs, cereal and yoghurts.
But if you fancy something a little lighter, then you can also grab the hangover special at the Catalyst Cafe. An orange juice, tea/coffee and a croissant costs just €6.00 and will help kick-start your day of exploring!
Quick tip: Breakfast costs just €5.90 if you book in advance on the Clink Hostels website.
Once you’ve got some food in your stomach it’s time to test your limits by heading to the highest swing in Europe!
The A’DAM Lookout is less than a 2-minute walk from ClinkNOORD hostel, and 22-stories high! For €12.50 you can get access to the viewing platform on the 22nd floor, which will give you unparalleled views of Amsterdam and Amsterdam Noord.
However, the highlight of the A’DAM Tower can be found quite literally, hanging over the edge! Sat at 100 metres high, the ‘Over The Edge’ swing is the highest in Europe. I’m usually fearless when it comes to heights. But I couldn’t help screaming as I looked down at the rooftops of Noord below!
Tickets for the swing cost an extra €5.00. But you can get a combined ticket for the tower and the swing in advance by clicking here.
Quick tip: It’s best to visit early as queues for the swing can get super long later in the day and especially on the weekend!
After experiencing life on the edge a the A’DAM Tower, there’s no better way to relax than on a chilled-out cruise with Pure Boats Amsterdam. Their boats proudly claim 100% zero emission. And even their drinks on board are sourced from sustainable local businesses, like their beers from Brouwerij ‘t IJ.
On our day out with Clink Hostels, our classical 12-person boat was steered by James and Geertje, who were the perfect hosts! You could easily spend your money on a massive tour boat where the driver calls out random facts about the city from a microphone to 50 other guests. Or, you could splash out and pretend that you’re a true Dutch local in your own private boat.
Once you’ve relaxed and sipped a few locally sourced gin and tonics on the boat, it’s time to get active again and grab some lunch! My favourite place to get bikes in Amsterdam Noord is from Tip Amsterdam Noord. And the best part is that they run in partnership with ClinkNOORD Hostel. So if you finish with the bike after they close, you can hand your keys into the hostel reception.
From Tip Amsterdam Noord, Cafe De Ceuvel is less than a ten-minute cycle ride. And the best part about cycling in Amsterdam Noord is that the roads are far less hectic than in the main part of the city!
The entire menu at Cafe De Ceuvel is organic and locally sourced. So what exactly does that mean? Well, they grow their own vegetables. And what they can’t grow, they buy from the weekly farmers market that runs every Tuesday from 17.30 – 19.30pm. Oh, and you won’t find Coca-Cola here. Instead, they make their own sodas from homemade organic syrups.
After De Ceuvel, NDSM Werf is less than a ten-minute cycle away. It’s also one of my favourite places to spend an afternoon in Amsterdam Noord.
Once one of the biggest shipyards in the world, NDSM Werf was transformed into the Kunststad (‘Art City‘ in English) after the shipping industry began to leave the area. NDSM Werf is now a breeding ground for all types of artists, who travel from across The Netherlands to run workshops, live in a creative space, and share their art with the locals of Amsterdam.
The old boathouse that houses Art City is free to visit. But the best part of NDSM Werf (in my opinion) is the street art that lines the walls of the old shipyard!

Once you’re finished exploring the Art City and surrounding street art, it’s time for some dinner! Pllek and the Noorderlicht Cafe are two great places to watch the sunset in Noord, as well as to grab tasty food and drinks!
Both bars/restaurants are open well into the night (1.00am most weekdays and 3.00am on weekends). Which means that you could easily have dinner at one and finish off the night in another!
My favourite is Pllek, and you can read more about it in this article: 5 More Things To Do in Amsterdam Noord.
If you want to finish your 24 hours in Amsterdam Noord by heading out into the bright lights of the city, then you’ll be pleased to know that the ferries that run from Centraal Station to ClinkNOORD Hostel run 24 hours, 7 days a week!
But, if you want a chance to get to know other guests at the hostel and try a few local craft beers that are brewed in Noord, then head down to the Zinc Bar!
ClinkNOORD regularly runs exciting events to showcase upcoming artists and musicians. But they also run nightly activities in the bar, which is a great way to get involved and make new friends! Here’s a rundown of a few, almost all of which are free to attend:
➤ Happy Hour: ClinkNOORD runs a happy hour every evening from 17.00 – 19.00
➤ Monday: Movie night – grab a bag of popcorn and chill out with a film.
➤ Tuesday: Beer pong contest!
➤ Wednesday: Cocktail workshop (just €5) or Yoga at 11 am for free.
➤ Thursday: Karaoke night!
➤Friday: Quiz night!
➤ Saturday: Ping pong tournament!
➤ Sunday: Music night – this is my favourite night of the week as guests can request their favourite songs to be played at the bar! It’s a great way to bond with people who have similar interests and discover great new music!
