Travel Destination Wish List

by Katie Dawes

As I’m not that in to fashion and can’t seem to find more items to add to my last Travel Fashion Wish List(!) I decided to share with you all my Travel Destination Wish List! There are far more than five on this list! But I’m looking to turn it in to an ongoing series so I didn’t want to share all at once! Enjoy!

Travel Destination Wish List

Photo souces: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5

1. The Chillhouse Surf Resort – Bali, Indonesia

The Chillhouse was one of those random Instagram accounts that I stumbled on a year or so ago and follow religiously, and whilst it’s a little out of my budget range, it’s been at the very top of my ‘to-visit’ ever since. Indonesia itself is on almost every traveller’s list, but to fit in a chilled resort and a bit of surfing too just looks like the top getaway! As it happens, whoever handles their IG is also very friendly, which of course is great PR that I just can’t ignore haha!

2. Fingal’s Cave, Staffa Island, Scotland

I first saw footage of Fingal’s cave years and years ago, but was recently reminded of it by the BBC’s recent program, the Seven Wonders of the Commonwealth. Originally named in Gaelic as An Uaimh Bhinn (‘The Melodious Cave’) it was renamed in honour of the hero of James McPherson’s 18th Century poems known as the Ossian Cycle. Basically, it looks to me as one of nature’s most incredible feats of architecture, with incredibly structured volcanic rocks that have been moulded by the sea.

3. Patagonia, South America

The subject and final destination of one of my all time favourite travel movies, 180 Degrees South, Patagonia is an incredibly beautiful natural area in South America that spans the border of Argentina and Chile. Specifically, being such a fan of the movie, volunteering in the Conservacion Patagonica is one of my all time dreams as it just looks like such a wonderfully untouched area of the world.

4. Half Moon Bay & Mavericks, California

This is another long-wished for destination based on a great documentary! I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve watched Riding Giants since it was released, but despite there being so many famous big wave destinations round the world, Mavericks has always looked the scariest and full of the most raw natural energy of the ocean. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not asking to ride it one day, but I would love to see it break!

5. St Thomas’ Mount, Chennai

Rumour has it that my grandparents were married in the church on St Thomas’ Mount, but with my dad being the first of his immediate family to be born in England neither one of us has had the chance yet to go and see where they were married and lived for the majority of their married life! The majority of this list comes down to a desire to see beautiful natural sites, but St Thomas’ Mount would be the most sentimental trip I’m sure I’ll ever take.

Have I mentioned any spots that are on your bucket list? Let me know which one’s I shouldn’t miss out on below!

Lots of love,

I was so close to book the chillhouse for my October trip to Bali, but settled for anther surf camp in Padang Padang, from my research I concluded that the beaches in Padang Padang are better than the beaches in the Canggu area, since the sand in Canggu is black because it volcanic sand, and in the video you can see that.

Aaahh thanks for the input – I’ll definitely have to check out the beaches!! I love how friendly the Chillhouse are over social media though – always so inviting haha!

Aww you don’t like black sand?! 😉 Kidding of course, Padang Padang is also beautiful!

Ah I didn’t know that about the sand – but then my hometown has a pebble beach so any sand is a plus! 😉
