Souvenir Travel Haul

by Katie Dawes

Being on the road makes it difficult to collect ‘things’ to remind me of where I’ve been. Now I’m moving out of my flat in Amsterdam back in to my suitcase I don’t have any walls to hang exotic art on, or any shelves to decorate with trinkets from across the globe.

What I do have though is a journal, which I use more as a folder than for writing. It contains everything I’m sharing with you in my souvenir travel haul video above.

More important than the souvenirs are the memories that accompany them. It still amazes me that just looking at an old receipt or a bus ticket can bring so many fun memories flooding back, almost like a movie playing in my mind.

Do you collect souvenirs? And if so do you have a favourite one? Let me know in the comments below…

I do a very similar thing when I travel! I love to collect postcards, maps, small prints, tickets, etc. I also like to use stamps I might see and stamp that onto a slip of paper I can also keep. The National Park system in the US usually offers a dated and location-specific stamp at each visitor’s center and they’re really fun.

I love that idea! I don’t get enough passport stamps (being from the EU and travelling Europe) so I’d love to get location specific stamps in a journal 🙂

Take your journal into local post offices and see if they’ll use their location/date stamp on your journal for you!

Great video Katie.

I think I’m a bit of a hoarder too 🙂 I have also sorts of public transport ticket stubs, old boarding passes, entry tickets and leaflets. They are great at triggering memories from years ago.

They definitely do trigger the best memories! Glad you enjoyed the video and good to hear I’m not the only one with a good hoard of travel tickets! 😀
