A question I get asked a lot is whether there are any hostels for solo female travellers only. Unfortunately, there aren’t that many female only hostels out there. But, I found the best ones that I could!
I’ve also been more and more concentrated on providing content for those of you girls reading this and hoping to travel the world one day. Whether it’s solo, with a partner, with your kids, or you best friends! There’s not right way to travel, and even if I love solo female travel, that doesn’t mean that you should too.
That being said, here is a list of female only hostels that I’ve found to help future solo female travellers.
*Please note: I haven’t stayed in any of these hostels myself, so I can’t give them a personal review. I have stayed at St Christopher’s at The Village, of which St Christopher’s at The Oasis is a part of, and I can tell you that the reception staff were fantastic!

Female Only Hostels for Solo Female Travellers
1. Hostelle, Amsterdam
The original Hostelle was opened in Amsterdam in 2012 by Bianca Brasdorp. The female only hostel has since relocated to reflect it’s growing popularity with solo female travellers, but the idea to offer women and girls a safe, beautiful, fun and clean place to stay in Amsterdam still remains.

2. Hostella Female Only, Rome
Hostella Female Only is a small and cosy hostel located just a five minute walk from Termini, Rome’s main train station. They have a beautiful rooftop terrace, and no bunkbeds! Instead, their dorms are furnished with single beds offering you the perfect night’s sleep in the centre of this hectic city.

3. St Christopher’s at the Oasis, London
The Oasis at St Christopher’s used to be one of the few completely separate female only hostels. In 2015 it relocated to the second floor of St Christopher’s at The Village, where it still has it’s own door that is unaccessible to other guests unless they have a keycard for the female only dorms. The reception and breakfast areas are shared with mixed guests of The Village.

4. Orsa Maggiore Hostel, Rome
Orsa Maggiore Hostel is located on the edge of the Trastevere district in Rome and offers both female only dorms as well as private rooms. It is part of the non-profit International Women’s House in Rome which has a long and strong feminist history in the city, making it the perfect location for independent, creative women.

5. Cairns Girls Hostel, Cairns
Cairns Girls Hostel is one of very few female only hostels in Australia. All their rooms are dorms, female only dorms of course from 2-beds to 5-bed dorms, and they all have en-suite bathrooms. Most reviews comment on their fantastic location and the laid-back atmosphere.
