So you write a blog, what’s it about?
Hostels mainly, and if not hostels then usually coffee…
Above is an example of the exchange that takes place when people ask me what The Hostel Girl is about. I try and keep the blog as focused as possible, but I love coffee almost as much as I love hostels so writing about it comes naturally. If you love coffee too (purlease, who doesn’t these days?) then check out my favourite coffee shops in Athens & Exeter! I also post a lot of coffee shop photos on my instagram…
The Borough Market London
Borough Market is my favourite market in London, by far! Last week I met an Irish guy who kept raving about this coffee shop he always visits in the Borough to buy his beans, so after listening to his stories of queues winding around the block and great customer service I let him drag me along one morning.
Monmouth Coffee, Borough Market London
Monmouth Coffee, like any true boutique coffee shop, has a very rustic interior represented in the liberal distribution of brown sugar, burgundy jumpers, and sand tinted aprons. For each shop the company keeps in London, their beans are roasted close by in Bermondsey, South London, where staff are also trained to provide the best coffee experience. Part of this is offering customers to try before they buy, and as we were buying beans that day and therefore had about 3 espressos after our initial flat white I can honestly say I was buzzing for the rest of the day!
Tea 2 You, Borough Market London
As I said before, I am definitely a coffee person. However, after all the bean tasting I wasn’t sure I’d be touching another coffee for a few hours so when we saw the wonderful Monica beaming out from behind the counter at the Tea 2 You stand inside the Borough we couldn’t help but gravitate towards her offerings of tasting the two Darjeeling flushes and her beautiful Chai. When I do drink tea, I’m all for Chai and the way that Monica made it was unlike anything I’d ever tasted!
To top it off, Monica told us she’d been studying tea for three years, and that the products they serve on her stand are all from her grandfather’s gardens in… Darjeeling! She definitely knows her stuff, as at a recent tasting her hand-picked Darjeeling 1st Flush won an award from Prince Charles himself over 130 other teas brought by other vendors to the tasting.
So whether you’re a tea or coffee person (or maybe both!) definitely check out both Monmouth Coffee & Monica’s stall Tea 2 You at the Borough Market London Bridge!
Lots of love,
