Scenic Snaps: Fez

by Katie Dawes

Fez, Morocco | June 2013

Aside from the heat, the first thing that hit us on arrival in Fez was an invitation to buy weed. Passing up the offer – we hadn’t even found bottled water yet(!) – we scurried past the kind gentlemen who had extended the offer as they leant up against rusty cars, whilst our senses began to adjust to the odd mix of African and Mediterranean that you find in Morocco.

In luck, we bought a few bottles of water before we proceeded to get lost in the expansive and ancient medina, fearing equally that the walls would crumble in over our heads & we would hit a dead end with no one but a hustler for help. The second happened frequently, but with group determination, plus a firm telling off from my Arabic-fluent friend, we managed not to hand over too much money to entrepreneurial hustlers.
