10 Online Christmas Gifts for Travellers

by Katie Dawes

Are you looking for the perfect Christmas gifts for travellers in your life – but you left it too late? Or perhaps you don’t know where to send your gifts to?!

Well here’s a little secret:

We love coming home for Christmas and treated with our own little pile under the Christmas tree! But when the time comes to pack our bags again we find that the thoughtful and beautiful gifts we received just aren’t as necessary to carry around as our underwear and laptop… sorry!

So if you’re looking for the perfect christmas gifts for travellers in your life, consider gifts that won’t take up space in their carry-on luggage and you’ll find they might just be that extra bit grateful!

Plus, these are all subscription gifts for travellers that I use on my never-ending travels – or would definitely benefit from!

10 Online Christmas Gifts for Travellers

1.

Spotify Subscription – €9.99

Christmas Gifts for Travellers

This had to go top of my list because no matter how many times I try and declutter my direct debits each month this one will NEVER EVER not be necessary.

Music makes the wheels on the bus go round, the engines on the plane feel like soft soft vibrations, and backpacking hikes like a soft waltz.

Music matters to travellers. And Spotify are currently offering three months of Spotify premium for 99p!

2.

EasyJet Plus Membership – £199

I recently started taking note of this cheeky little budget airline upgrade when a flight attendant told a woman she couldn’t take on her extra bag unless she was an easyJet plus cardholder.

As a frequent budget flier I never bother choosing a specific seat and always cram as much as I can into hand luggage. But perhaps I’m getting old, because I recently considered paying the annual £170 membership for the added comfort of choosing my own seat, getting an extra small cabin bag and God forbid… speedy boarding!

3.

Dropbox Pro Subscription – from £8.25

If you didn’t take any photos – were you even there?

Modern travellers now have a wealth of options for documenting their trips via smartphones and affordable digital camera (see my top camera choice here!). But my biggest fear is losing those photos – which is where a Dropbox Pro subscription proves invaluable!

With up to 1TB of space for photos from £6.58 per month, travellers can upload their photos and then access them from anywhere in the world. Plus – they’ll be kept safe and secure, and can be shared with friends and family back home for free!

4.

Audible Subscription – £7.99

Audible is the new kindle. If your travellers doesn’t have the space for your Kindle or they’re constantly on the move, Audible enables them to download audiobooks to listen to on the go.

This is something I really want to use more, but at $14.95 (≈ €15.06 or £10.61) a month after the 30-day free trial it’s just one more direct debit I don’t want to see sucking my Paypal account dry… which is why it would make the perfect Christmas gift for travellers!

5.

Skype Credit – from $10

If you want to hear more from your loved ones who are currently globetrotting across the globe, why not guilt-trip them in to it by providing credit for their Skype account?

Skype credit enables us to call landlines and mobiles across the world without having to buy a local SIM to keep calling costs down… and makes life so much easier if we need to get hold of the bank or a government number whilst travelling!

6.

Workaway.info Account – from €29.00

For savvy travellers who don’t mind lending a hand to business and families across the globe in exchange for a bed, access to Workaway.info is a gift in itself.

For solo travellers signing up to the site costs $29.00, whilst it costs $38.00 for couples. However Workaway.info offer the option for friends and family of savvy travellers to buy a Workaway subscription as a gift which then gives them full access to the site.

7.

Netflix Subscription – from €7.99

Being more of a book person myself, I get more use from my Amazon Prime Membership than Netflix.

But for movie lovers, a Netflix subscription is a must – offerings access to thousands of movies and TV shows for those nights you’ve explored enough and just want to Netflix and chill with your new hostel buddies.

8.

Memrise Pro – from $9.00

The best travellers know that…

[Tweet “You don’t really get to know a country until you experience it through it’s own language.”]

Duolingo is a great free app and website to learn and gain practice in new languages, but Memrise offers a wider range of language courses (I even found one for Darija – Moroccan Arabic – which is notoriously rare!) and their Memrise Pro subscription gives travellers even greater control and insight into their language learning!

9.

iTunes Credit

iTunes credit is invaluable to any traveller with an iPhone or iPad who is always keeping an eye on the best new travel apps that will make their life easier – whether it be offline maps, apps to meet other travellers, or airline apps to keep track of their multitude of boarding passes!

Or perhaps your traveller is more into watching movies on the go? iTunes credit can be used for apps, books, music, TV programmes and more making it one of the most versatile virtual christmas gifts for travellers out there.

10.

Amazon Prime Membership

Just like an iTune Gift Card, Amazon Prime membership gives your traveller access to a wealth of multimedia to consume on the go including:

  • free one-day delivery on millions of Amazon store items
  • unlimited instant streaming of thousands of movies and TV shows
  • access to thousands of Kindle titles to borrow
  • and best of all for travellers – secure, unlimited photo storage with anywhere access!

If there are any other subscriptions to travel you’d love to be given for Christmas, let me know in the comments below!

And don’t forget to share this post to offer a subtle hint to your friends and family!

So good! I’m exhausted by “stuff” and moving exponentially into the digital nomad realm. I definitely benefit more from access to media and education/interesting things to do on flights. ;} Great round-up.

I know – I feel so ungrateful when I get ‘stuff’ but there really is no room for it! Hope you can sneakily share this with your loved ones 😉
