My Purpose:
To produce a platform where I can share the way in which hostelling advances international understanding and acceptance amongst thousands of travellers worldwide.
Bio – in short:
My time in hostels both on solo and group trips, and working and living in hostels, inspired a love for the atmosphere of each building.
The way a hostel brings together travellers of all different ages, interests, faiths, and nationalities and forces them to live side by side in dormitories, drink side by side on pub crawls – or even to learn to surf together – is such a beautiful thing in a world full of war and turmoil mostly brought about by a lack of understanding of other cultures.
Bio – in full:
I graduated University and realised I didn’t want to use all those years of work experience and networking by holing up in an office for the foreseeable future. Most people I know live in London, and whilst I miss them greatly(!)… well I’d rather be getting to know new cities and meeting new people from all over the world!
After a summer spent fulfilling a lifetime goal (learning to surf!!) I returned home and began looking for hostel jobs. I didn’t have a lot of savings so I figured I would need a paid one… and luckily there was an advertisement for a paid hostel receptionist role in Budapest!
I’d never been, but I figured it was a city like any else, right? A week after applying I was living in a city I’d never experienced, hearing a language I’d never heard before, living with people I’d never met, and on the whole just having a fun time!
So read, enjoy, subscribe and make yourself at home.

Thank you! 🙂
thank you for following my blog! happy that you like it 🙂 what an interesting blog you have! for sure will be back here 🙂
Thanks! I’m glad you like mine too! haha 🙂
I love your website, blog and the life you are leading at the mo Katie – I get occasional notifications from LinkedIn. 3 Things. 1. How about fitting in a teensy bit of psychology to your posts? 2. Why on earth is Ireland not on your list of destinations yet? You seriously need to get yourself over to the West Coast and see if you can figure out which is best – the surf or the hostels; in the right spots they are both awesome! 3. Keep it up and stay away from that air-conditioned, cube farm, commuter-hell routine for eva! (is that what young people say?). But if you ever want a ‘proper job’ myself and Gary want first refusal 🙂
Awww Nick it’s so lovely to hear from you! I hope you and Gary are doing well… still rocking the coaching world I hope! I’m a bit rusty on my psychology these days… so I should definitely be finding ways to to link it with hostels. Also – “Why on earth is Ireland not on your list of destinations yet?” – I can only apologise I haven’t made my way there yet! Perhaps I can squeeze it in this summer – I know who to ask for tips when the time comes! As for number three… I’m working on it 🙂 Send my love to everyone from ‘the old days’ haha!
p.s. the internship was still my favourite ‘proper job’ yet!
Great website, read a few of your articles and enjoyed them all and found them helpful. Added the travel bloggers you suggest on snapchat as that is something I plan to use myself when I go to Australia in January. Where do you find out about these conferences you attend?
Ah that’s awesome! What’s your snapchat so I can make sure I follow back and can follow your adventures in Australia? I mostly hear about the conferences from other friends attending, whether they’re in the hostel industry or are bloggers! 🙂 Hope that helps!
craigsmith5 is my snapchat. You are already making me jealous with your pics haha!
Hey! I just found your blog! Love it 🙂 Greetings from Budapest
